BIG PATIO DIY project! UPDATE PICS, changes, small deryanizing and small DIY project.

Alright fellow bloggers we are on vaca this week and what are we doing?.......drum roll.............working on the house!! Ta Da! Jealous huh?

Big DIY project here, so we got two 16x20 exposed aggregate patios.I just love it, it's so rich and warm and cozy looking. Love it.
But while we are on vacation this week we are building a stone (brussels system) fireplace (not a Pit a PLACE..lol) with sitting walls around them, that is what is going in that "curved" portion of the patio you see up front in front of the morning room.

Yup I love my fairy, back off...lol

Exposed up close up against our La Cava brick.
All those tiny stones are exposed with a brown tint, Im very happy with it.

This is about HALF of what the stack looked like, I rather not take any progress pics I want to take
pics of the completed project....stay tuned!

Also still working on this DAMN yard, so it never ends. So yesterday a neighbor had tons of dirt delivered had a crap load left over asked if we wanted it, so while hubby was working on fireplace I  hauled i think like 14 wheelbarrows (with some of neighbors assistant) full of top soil for a portion of my front yard and reseeded...there are so many rocks in that section it needed another coat of topsoil to grown anything...Im trying.. plus it was FREE dirt, wasnt on the list of things to do!!

Today Aug 12th with new dirt in front. Foggy this AM. Above pic.

July 20th, looks OK, but didnt stay that way at all!

Now a DIY project my hubby did for me to keep our family in order, there is always crap all over the kit island and I never have a place to put all of our schedules.  So he made this for me, it's in no way fancy, but he is so smart and I love it....I placed it as soon as you walk in thru garage entrance door and we write everything on it and stick our keys and mail their too in the appropriate slots...My hubby is so smart...

Kirklands of course!

De-ryanizing that  builders choice mirror in powder room. Again Kirklands, $30.

Just some vases and stuff added to top of cabinets, anybody else have fun ideas for above cabinets?

LET'S NOT FORGET THE GABLE ROOF THAT IS COMING IN A COUPLE WEEKS TO FINISH OFF THE PATIO...........so that Hubby can put a TV under there and lord knows what else he is going to wire out there!

Oh and today he hits me with he wants to put "lights" in the sitting walls........WHAT??  How the hell are you going to run electricity to the sitting walls, he doesnt like messing with electrical but he is a proud man and will figure it out, he is awesome with anything else you give him, but electrical he is weary with, so this should be a fun project, keep in mind we only have 7 days to complete the fireplace and sitting walls, and now lights???  Hubby Moto......GO BIG OR GO HOME!! . WELL technically we are HOME, does that count?LOL

Stay tuned for some interesting pics.

    1. Donna the grass is a real struggle, unless your purchase good top soil and some mushroom manuer it's pointless to keep putting seed on top of that crappy soil that's compact and nothing can penetrate it.

The sitting walls are A LOT of work, but its because its on a curse and you have to cut each and every block, if it was straight it would have been done in one day !!

  2. I love you patio, the shape of it makes it look so cozy but elegant at the same time. Also the command center your husband built is cool. I have been looking for something to contain the mess when you walk in the door.

Yeah we are having the Amish come back and build a 16 wide by 20 deep gable roof over half the patio in 3 weeks. cant wait, they bet every builders price but 3/4th I kid you NOT!

  6. I'm with you on the grass! It's so freaking frustrating trying to grow grass in gravel! Our yard is probably 80% weeds at this point and that's the only thing that's keeping it looking remotely green right now. I now know why one of the neighbors paid a landscaping crew to basically strip and redo their entire front yard earlier this year. They have grass now though so I guess it worked.

Can't wait to see the finished fireplace/sitting wall/patio area.

    1. M, oh the grass, a constant struggle.

I cant wait to see it finished either, today there is no work being done of it :(

It should be done by the end of the week, its a bit BIG for me but it makes the hubby happy.

  7. Cannot wait to see the finished patio! We are still trying to finalize our plans for the backyard - what a pain! I just want a place to sit and enjoy before it gets too cold to be outside. And we didn't even get grass from RH - just some "erosion control" that has now developed a serious weed issue and is taking over the yard. We haven't rockhounded yet though, so we can't mow the weeds (we have to pull them or use the weed whacker all over the yard). Such an eyesore. I'll be happy when we're done.

  9. I love your patio. We wanted to get a patio in our new house, but we sit too high up, so we opted for a deck. We had stairs added to the side, so we can eventually have patio installed on the other side of the deck. I just posted pictures here: http://ryanhomesjourney.blogspot.com/

I have invested in spending much time and sweat for nothing to GROW!!14 days and not a blade of grass, come on now!! I think there are sooooooooooo many rocks that it will never grow!! Maybe time for a letter to the upper management..but will it do any good?
