Seamless Shower - how to request it.

I have gotten so many requests about how to get the nonstandard seamless shower.

Therefore, thought a tab was needed for this information for all.

This is how I got my shower.

I asked what company installed our shower.

I contacted that company and asked if they installed seamless.

You just tell them your name and Lot number and they will have your information.

The glass company contact my PM and he said he was OK with the installation.

We simply continued to work directly with the glass co.

They asked RH what they charged us for the standard shower and simply credited us that amount and put it towards the seamless one.

We went out to the company and picked out our type of shower and handles and hinges.

All without bothering our PM, which I think makes nonstandards more likely to happen. (not that my PM ever made me feel I was bothering him!!)

We paid the glass company directly the difference out side of our mortgage, simplifying things even further.

And there you have it, a seamless shower.

  1. Hi we are building in Pittsburg as well, a venice and I love the seamless shower, did you have to request this before you signed your sales agreement?? I made a non standard request yesterday but my SR said those have to be done before you sign, at what time in the process did you request this??

    1. We didn't ask to do that until our pre construction meeting, which is longer into the process then you are.

It does not affect your mortgage or a change order or purchase price.....

I do not see any reason why this request can't be granted.

I simply asked the name of the glass company...called them directly, paid them directly, the made a phone call or two to my PM and installed the shower as they would the other shower.

If you really want it, don't take no for an answer, mine really didn't involve RH at all just the glass company.

Feel free to email me if you like I can we can talk about the glass company and more...Can you send me your email please and I will do all I can to help you and give you some names.

  2. In our area it seems like the RH administrators/pricing people who create the special requests that push back and like to say "no". From reading the blogs PMs seem much more flexible, and maybe through your own effort you can "make it happen" even if officially its not allowed. I was told definitely no on our porch, and started doing my own research when the excuses for the no didn't make sense to me. I still had to slog through RH red tape since it was a structural issue, and I got the vibe that there was some internal RH tension over it, but doing the legwork helps.

    1. I found doing your own leg work is really helpful to everyone involved and not once did I get the impression from our PM's that it was frowned upon.!!

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this information. The seamless glass shower was something we wanted from the start (as the standard ones are DIFFICULT to clean and keep looking nice). Of course our SR said we could put in a non-standard but she didn't know if it would be approved and said if it was, that it would cost big $$. So I'm going to follow your advice and work with the glass company myself to try and get it done. We have our pre-construction meeting on 2/4/13 so I'll try and start the process then.

BTW - your finished house looks great! Congrats.

  4. C, please keep me updated I am curious.

I didn't think it was BIG $$ at all compared to what RH charges for so many other things........

Just ask what glass company they use and do the leg work, I really hope it works out for you.

Just yesterday RH asked if they could show my home, and I let the visitors know that the shower was a special request...I would hate for them to see the shower and think it's what they would be getting.

  5. I couldn't find my last comment, so I thought I'd reply here. After a little back and forth, my PM agreed to let the frameless shower option go through. Originally he said he had a concern due to warranty so they were willing to not install the shower door they offer so that we could have a frameless installed after closing. Well, then we had a couple other issues we had to take care of so I asked again, and he said his main concern was around it being on a work site installed and knowing it could be damaged and having to replace it so we agreed it would be the last thing installed right before we closed and accepted our keys. He gave me the glass company's contact info and we're calling them Monday!!! Thanks so much!

  6. Ryan, yup there biggest concern is breaking it!! and RH having to pay to replace it.....so yup ours also was literally the very last thing they did, in fact I think they roped off the bathroom until we closed..LOL
I am so very happy it worked out for you, I know people hate to push RH even after they said NO, but sometimes you gotta push back some to get what you want within reason...

  8. Not sure my post went through. So did RH reimburse you? I'm confused on that part. How do you know how much just the shower frame is since in our master list there is only a price for shower with sitting bench? Thanks! I'm requesting this!! :)

    1. Sterling (reminds me of silence of the lambs...hehehehehe), Anywayz, lets just use some round numbers.

So Glass Company says a seamless/frameless shower installed for them costs $3,000.

My Glass Co. figured out what THEY charged Ryan for the "seamed" glass shower.

Say it was $1000 the Glass Co. charged Ryan to install the "seamed".

They credited me the $1,000 since its already factored into the home and the glass company will already get that money.

The Glass company took $1000 off the $3000 and I owed them an additional $2000 out of my pocket to get the SEAMLESS SHOWER.

(NOW those arent the real numbers, but they are close).

Sterling I hope that made sense, if not please keep asking me, I really dont mind at all. Its a hobby I enjoy helping out new builders.

    2. oh and sterling there should NOT BE A CHARGE FEE ASSOCIATED with this!! it does not involve Ryan at all and DOES NOT HOLD THEM UP!!!

I dont know if I said also, we paid the Glass Co. up front, we did NOT pay Ryan anything, just the Glass Co. Cash.

Now at the end I can tell you , that glass shower will be the VERY LAST THING THEY DO IN THE HOME, Ryan does not want any workers breaking that shower.

    1. This is my third time trying to send this message so if it shows up repeatedly I apologize. I just met with Rex Glass. Can you please tell me if you get water on the floor when you use your shower? He was telling me I will need to add a header to my shower so they can add a vinyl strip so water doesn't get outside. I knew yours was a true frameless so I figured I should find out from someone that already has one.

    2. Mary...HI, so sorry if you tried 3x,, oh my goodness!!

Rex Glass also told us the same thing, very nicely though I must ad. He said a HEADER would warranty it NOT to leak. But we went without the header any way, and still NO LEAKS, now we don't point the shower and the glass doors and we have a mat outside the door, but never notice mat being soaked or any water on the floor.

Love love them, one of my fav things of the house.

I think the guy at Rex said he just cant warranty the LEAK if it leaks without the HEADER. But my shower isn't huge either, cant remember is yours a savoy? Or a shower similar?

    3. We do not have plastic between the opening of the doors either, only along the bottom of the door, never any problems,

they had said they would get the doors as close together as they could and they DID and did an awesome job, one thing in almost 3 years Ive never ever had a problem with!! Good luck, let me know :)
