Guardian Visit Finally Accomplished! Didn't hurt as badly as anticipated!

OK..........here goes!! Our Guardian Visit!!!!

First of all, my guy was good.  He was polite, respected our wishes that we did not want to spend a lot of money and was not pushy at all..........

He focused on what we were interested in......

He was disappointed that we did not get the alarm system and did ask 2x if we would reconsider, but he did it in a very nice way and again was not pushy at all......

I cant say I was super surprised at the prices since I was prepared thanks to this BLOG

You guys are awesome, my fellow bloggers!!

The TV mount above the fireplace is $440........funny thing is.......it used up 3 of our allowed cable/phone hookups........

Since we will have a modem and wireless router (who doesn't???????)  and TV and PS3 and Bose surround(we already own a system, we didnt buy one) it actually uses 3 of the "free" cable hook-ups, I didnt understand it but Hubby did..

The prewire for ceiling surround sound was $550 for 5 speakers prewired.

Each additional cable outlet is $95 dollars

FYI, their Gold Package for surround sound was $2000 for their brand of speakers!  We didnt buy it, but thought i would mention it.

I cant quote price for central vac, I didnt wanna hear about it or the whole house sound or the security system, we just knew we didnt want these things......and he respected that and we really didnt talk about it!!

I have to say much of it is over my head...........LOL....hubby completely got it tho, he understands this stuff, he is a fanatic about good technology!! So I just trust him :)

What I thought was Super cool was instead of having all your cable box, ps3, and dvr's next to the fireplace you can have it in another place, hidden, with a remote control that works through the walls...............

OK, how cool is that............SOLD....(I hate clutter........)

Now i knew this from our Bose system now, our remote will work outside if you want it too........

We worked it out so that the TV mount we got ...we got more out of our money if we put it in our STUDY right next to our living room (our study is enclosed and not open to the living room) which will also serve as our modem for our computer all in one tidy place in the house in a nice corner cabinet more hidden.......this did not cost any more to move this into the Study....

Now  I thought this was super cool, I hate seeing all that crap next to the fireplace........even tho you cant do anything about the BOSE Woofer (i think its called that...lol...that sits on the floor...correct me if I am wrong.hahahahahaha) that will have to stay next to the fireplace, but I stratically place it behind a chair :) which I do now...

Now..in order to do this..............You need some type of special remote to do this, again, my apologies I cant remember what that remote is called,...............BUT I love that we can get billed the $310 for that remote after our closing.......I was allllllll about that.....not being put in the mortgage....Hubby was against it..............but I WON............you men may side with the Hubby but it was a no brainer for me not seeing all that ugliness next to the fireplace!!

Soooo, all in all we spent what we wanted to and needed too........

We got cable in our bedrooms, the TV mount and 5 prewired speakers...

Not too bad....

Thanks for all the advice you all gave, we decided that........yes..............hubby could have done all that WORK IF..........and IF..........the PM agreed to let us to do that before the dry wall went up.........

Hubby is all about DIY and capable of doing anything himself, but he rather not rip down walls in a brand new home and run wire if the PM denied us running conduit through the walls.....

We thought very little willl bump up our mortgage payment, it was worth the peace of mind that it was DONE!

I am talking to my loan officer about paying for Guardian seperate though, I will let ya'll know what he says....

OH also.......
FYI

*******if you get the STUDY and get the french doors with the study you get two extra cable hookups for FREE...

Also keep in mind the TV mount, if you have a router/modem........ too will eat 3 of your FREE cable/phone outlets!!

Tomorrow is our electrical meeting........

Overall, another productive day.

  2. Sounds like you had a productive meeting. As far as NVR, they are not the most attentive organization. So, the best advice it to keep on top of them. You will need to check-in and ask them if they have all the paperwork, etc. You would think they would be more together, but they're not.

  3. I'm glad you were able to make some good choices/

NVR will get worse.. depending on who you are dealing with.. I had a great Loan Officer..everyone else were not exactly spectacular.

Be prepared for frustration galore and redundancy!

  4. We spent A LOT with Guardian. My husband is a huge nerd and is very big on technology. We got the whole home audio - the speakers in the ceilings. We also got the networking package that came with more cable jacks than we knew what to do with. We got the security alarm and the in-home wifi - we have a wireless router built into the ceiling of our home. I wanted the central vac SO BAD but it's not offered in our area. I even submitted a non-standard request but it was shot down. Apparently a lot of other people in this region were having problems with it and RH was tired of hearing about it.

Our Guardian sales rep wasn't pushy either. He was super nice and just presented our options and then listened to us describe our wants (needs). My hubby could have done a lot of it himself too but we also didn't want to rip down walls in our brand new home. It was worth the convenience to have it done for us!

  6. Question - does anyone know if there is a standard amount of phone/cable hook-ups that are included?

  7. Teresa, We got four cable and two phone....if you get a STUDY then you get two extras...

But there are tricky things in there.....its kinda fast talking stuff.

We put a TV above our fireplace and for some reason that configuration ate up 3 of our 6 free cable/phone hookups...

The TV wall mount config was $440 and each additional cable was $95.

    What are your thoughts?
