Yup Noisy carpet.
We got the standard carpeting upstairs. And at night when TV's are off you can hear even the damn cats coming down the hallway...drives me nutz, anyone else??
Also who else has sump pumps?
I have two, one for the french drain and another sewage pump since the sewage line is above the basement a pump was needed to get water that the basement produces........like washer and drop sink and someday a toilet down there too.
This sewage pump is so loud it rattles the kitchen, they have done everything to fix it, but its still very loud and even rattles the kitchen sink.
Hubby is gonna call the PM we havent been dealing with to see what else can be done.
I'm sorry, it seems like you have problem after problem! This shouldn't happen with a brand new house! Hopefully you can get answers soon.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you!
Im curious as to why the sewage line is above the basement. There needs to be a pitch angle out to the street sewer for the waste to flow properly, sounds like bad planning to me unless the county came up with another reason.
ReplyDeleteWe have a sump, we only hear it run during irrigation season, and even that cut down when I dropped the watering sched to 3 days from the original 5 when I was soaking my lawn to keep it happy.
We also purchased a sump pump battery backup system which I highly recommend, if you lose power during a storm your basement is done. This auto engages when your power goes out and removes the water from the sump drain. Easy DIY install if you have the right tools.
You will need the battery as well. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100067307&R=100067307

DeleteGeesh!!! What in the frackle hackle bull is going on with your house??? So sorry you are still having problems with your home.
ReplyDeleteHoneslty, somethings are cosmetic which can be fixed BUT should have been DONE before you moved into your beautiful NEW HOME!! ALSO, it's a good thing the issues are showing up NOW rather LATER so that RH can fix these mishaps on their DIME not yours!!
We do have a sump pump which runs seamlessly.
Now the carpet:
We have hardwood on the entire main level so if you are in the basement you can hear EVERYTHING!! The walls are just paper thin. It's just ridiculous to say the least. There should be some sort of sound barrier installed or at least offered as an option. I can hear my husband on the phone in the basement. smh
We have 10lb padding in the basement with standard carpet and feels very comfy on my feet. I picked the standard only because RH did not offer the pattern I was looking for in their selections and I did not want to waste money on carpet I knew I would rip up once I found the carpet I want. I am glad we have the 10 lb padding in the basement because we know the standard carpet isn't the greatest.
Upstairs we have the 10 lb padding with the Level E carpet which does not feel as comfy as the standard carpet. Go figure! I think it's because we chose the carpet with the twirled pattern and speckles of color instead of the traditional style which provides a tighter pattern. The sound isn't as blatant. I am sure it's because of the padding; however, you can still hear the footsteps.
So sorry to hear about all your noises, hope RH gets it fixes so you dont have to deal with it to much longer.
ReplyDeleteDW...I have a little noise from I believe a floor board in my husband's clost in our master bedroom. But other than that, I don't really hear any noise. We have carpet in the hallway and all the bedrooms upstairs and then the dining room, office and living room. All of our carpet is standard and the padding is upgrades only in the family room.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its Rusmur thing?? I will be posting pics of my ugly ass living room for you to see the bump out...yup least fav room in house, due to old furniture...
DeleteYes! Our carpet makes sound too...level A. I guess we got what we paid for. Maybe over time it will improve.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that....LOL....at least I am not losing my mind!! We got what we paid for, but GESH the base price of these home and what the provide still shock me,and you don't know it till you get in it...
DeleteWe picked Level A for our new house (upgraded pad) but we actually just redid our current home with basically Level A carpet to get it ready for market. YES, it was very noisy! Like crinkly noisy. I will say, about a month later, it is WAY better and much less noisy. So hopefully this will happen with yours!
ReplyDeleteElise, you can relate huh? Gesh you're right it's like walking on.......somely crinkly.....but the sound has not dampened at all....
DeleteI know it's not the pad because we got upgraded carpet downstairs and you can't hear a thing...so it's the grade of the carpet...it's so freaky to hear your cat home in at night.
So is your carpet still loud with noises even after time? We were planning better grade padding but standard carpet but wonder if grade B will make improvement on the noise?
